Criteria for free and reduced lunch eases

Free Reduce Lunch Info This year, it’s easier than in past years for families to qualify for free and reduced lunch. Now, any family that qualifies for the state’s Basic Food program (food stamps) can also apply for school lunches, even if your income is higher than what the free and reduced applications require. Why is there a difference between criteria for Basic Food and Free and Reduced Lunch? While the National School Meals Program (which subsidizes lunches) is federally funded, Basic Food guidelines vary from state to state. So, to qualify for the federally funded lunch program, applicants must first meet individual state criteria for Basic Food.  Forms are available in several languages. If you have questions, Contact Donna Donnelley at (206) 463-2121 ext.8123.
